Personal Enjoyment and Rating: 4/10
QUAVO HUNCHO is Quavo’s eponymous debut solo studio album, and was released on October 12th, 2018.
Concluding my little three day run of solo Migos project reviews, we have Quavo’s album. I’ve heard pretty mixed opinions on this one with some people saying this is the best of the three solo releases, and others saying it’s the worst. Of course when there’s only three albums to talk about here the ranking can only be done in so many ways, but I’d have to agree with the opinion that this album is the worst for a number of reasons.
The biggest reason I didn’t like this album is really a combination of two things, those being the length and the diluted and generic tracks that this album encompasses. There really isn’t anything on here that jumps out at me in a good way, but there are more than a few that jump out in a bad way. For a trap record I can absolutely let the lyrical content slide, but Quavo really comes with some wack bars on this album. There are many times where it’s downright laughable. Some of the post laughable include, “Huncho, that Huncho (Ad-libs)
That Huncho, that Huncho (Smash, drip)
Huncho, that Huncho (Drip, drip)
Huncho, that Huncho (Woo, woo, woo, yeah)” where he uses the word ad lib as an ad lib, “Make her whip over the stove, no lasagna”, “Fabrics, fabrics (Whoo)
Expensive, linen (Linen)”, repeating fuck 12 over and over for a chorus, and repeating skrr skrr skrr skrr over and over again for a chorus.
I think he was onto something with the song title KEEP THAT SHIT because he really could’ve kept this project in my opinion. Sonically it’s boring, lyrically it’s tragic, and at over an hour long this project is just way too long. I think Quavo’s talents are best suited elsewhere and don’t work very well as a solo artist. In a group I think he hits his stride much better, but I don’t think anyone is drawn to Quavo for his lyrics so an hour full of them just ain’t it.
